Starcrossed Lovers Ch. 13Chapter 13
Seth did his best to forget his pain. He took a single sleep aid to help with his night. The next day, he was slow to wake up and get started. He wanted to move on with his life, he had done it before several times back when he dated women. Though Seth denied it, this was different. Those women before were brainwashed floozies who were in love with his image, not his character. Try as he did, those women did not appreciate his kindness. Desrye was different. She appreciated his gentle compassion. She was loyal. He denied it again, but the word came back again and again, as did others; loyal, submissive, loveable wise.
To take his mind off the break up, he drove to the local employment office. When given a list of job openings, Seth quickly learned he had little to offer this technologically advanced society.

Desrye said nothing. She poised clearly fearful of the man she had taken up in her bed. Seth's eyes pleaded for forgiveness.
"I think Desrye is afraid," Aurelius said over the silence. "Some one with a history much like yours kidnapped her recently. She too slaughtered dozens in her quest for vengeance... and her eyes glowed red. Though, I'll admit, she was capable of much good... more than I ever gave her credit for-"
Desrye shouted over them: "OH SHUT UP! Both of you!" The mare began pacing as tears welled up in her eyes. "Father, how can you speak so well about Suucrith?! After what she did to you? To us!? Her son is still raping Estelle as we speak, and you want to talk about her heroism?!"
Seth was glad that the tension was off him for the moment but realized he was being compared to her kidnapper; one who was a

"I'm so sorry about this, Seth, really I am." Desrye couldn't help but feel guilty. She ranted on about her culpability the entire walk up to her flat.
"I'm not mad," Seth insisted. "Really, I'm not. You don't need to feel bad about any of this. Who would have known I was carrying this thing the whole time? Well that explains why so many of my people on Earth are so crazed. I mean things have gotten really bad back there. Believe me, Des, I'm glad to be here."
"There always seems to be something going wrong in my life." She opened the door to her flat. "I just wish that... FATHER!"
"I came as soon as I heard," Aurelius stood up from the couch. The stallion was covered in glistening white fur, adorned with a cobalt-blue mane. It was easy to see where Desrye got her hair color. He raced to embrace his daughter. &

It was hours waiting aboard the Gandra'thor. Perhaps under different circumstances Seth would have enjoyed this detour. The chance to see a real live starship would have boggled his mind not more than a week ago. Now it didn't seem to matter. All that mattered now was he wasn't alone. Desrye nuzzled into his chest as they sat waiting in a bio-hazard containment room.
"All I wanted," Desrye ranted, "was to see some beautiful sights, take a stroll through the park. Maybe see an art gallery or two." She buried her nose in his chest. "I'm so, sorry this happened. I know you're fine, they'll realize it."
"I'm sure they will," Seth hugged her close. "It's OK, Des. I'm not angry." But he was nervous. He couldn't imagine a worse irony, to be struck with a killer virus at the moment he had found the love of hi
NazareneNazarene, what can you offer?
Since the hour you vomited forth
From the gaping wound of a woman,
You have done nothing but drown mens' soaring desires
In a deluge of sanctimonious morality
Your pain on the cross was but a splinter
Compared to the agony of my forefathers
I will drive deeper the thorns into your rancid carcass,
You profaner of the Ancient Gods
I will never bow before you!
